The working visit of the

State Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Moldova delegation to the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute

 

             In the period 18-21 May 2010, in Tallinn (Estonia) the official delegation of the State Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Moldova had a meeting with the administration of the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. The final result of the meeting was signing the Cooperation Agreement between both institutes.

            The delegation of the State Hydrometeorological Service was conducted by Mr. Alexandru Mazur, Deputy Director of the State Hydrometeorological Service, and the Estonian one by Mr. Jan Saar, Director General of the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

            The participants of the meeting shared information about the activity of both national institutes. During the visit, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova got familiarized with the meteorological and hydrological monitoring system from Estonia, including the operation of the Upper Air Station and Meteorological Radars System from Tallinn. The members of the Moldovan delegation held discussions with the relevant collaborators of the Estonian Institute on the verification mechanisms and methods for the hydrometeorological equipment, including the calibration of the automatic meteorological stations. A special attention was paid to the information about the operation of the meteorological radar and about the analyzing and decoding the radar data was as it is very important for the future modernization of the State Hydrometeorological Service.

             Both parties have shown interest and willingness to further extend the cooperation for mutual benefits. They also identified the main development directions, the ways and tools to implement the foreseen activities. There were discussed such issues as the optimization of the hydrometeorological activities by upgrading the monitoring system, as well as issues related to the capacity building.

          As it was mentioned before, the main result of the visit was singing the Cooperation Agreement between the State Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Moldova and the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.  This Agreement will represent a legal framework for future activities regarding the implementation of investment and technological transfer projects realized in cooperation with the Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

         In particular, we wish to mention the efforts of Mr. Veaceslav Dobîndă, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in the Republic of Estonia, whose personal dedication contributed to the successful organization of the meeting. Mr. Ambassador has shown his willingness to support any activities in the field of environmental protection.
