The Centre elaborates the scientific-methodological approaches to a number of regional hydrometeorological problems. The outcomes of the studies and their practical application contribute to a deeper understanding of the regional hydrometeorological problems and their impact on the national economy of the Republic of Moldova, as well as increase of the frequency of information distribution to the target users.

 In the framework of the regional climatic monitoring the Centre investigates the natural and anthropogenic changes in Moldova, assesses the scale and frequency of such changes for serving national economy and scientific institutions. By now the Centre carried out the diagnostic assessment of the modern climate in Moldova and its main characteristics (temperature, precipitation, etc.) and generalized the time series of the dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena and determined their variability tendencies under the global climate warming.

 As more and more users show interest in data on future regional climate the Scientific Methodical Centre is actively involved in development of future climate models; assessment of uncertainties, risks and climate changes as result of human activity. The Centre cooperates with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and thereby contributes to the preparation of the 4th Assessment Report on Climate Change.

The employees participate in international exchanges and contribute to the fulfilment of commitments under the international conventions and agreements signed by the Republic of Moldova. Experience obtained in the process of preparing scientific reports and publications facilitates the analysis and synthesis of the scientific methodical information and is being successfully applied in a number of reports and publications presented at various scientific meetings and conferences on regional and global scale, numerous publications, methodical and practical recommendations as well as cartographical works.
