Elaborates scientific-methodological approaches to a number of regional hydrometeorological problems, selects appropriate facilities and methods for their implementation, carries out scientific researches, synthesizes information about recent innovations in the sphere of hydrometeorology for more rational and effective use of data on weather and climate in the regional economy. Scientific Methodical Centre coordinates the activity of the sub-divisions of the State Hydrometeorological Service and interrelation with different scientific institutions. It also determines the potential sphere for practical application of the results of scientific researches and developments. The researches and their practical application promote deeper understanding of the regional hydrometeorological problems and their impact on the national economy of the Republic of Moldova, as well as increase the frequency of information distribution among potential customers.
Employees have broad experience in processing and interpretation of meteorological observations, combining classical meteorology and climatology with recent hydrometeorological models and approaches. They are aware of the new trends in the global science and forecasting models, and assist in the preparation of the reports and publications. Due to the high level of theoretical experience our employees are successfully working in different fields of hydrometeorology. The Centre actively contributes to the elaboration of the scientific-methodic materials for the new edition of “Climate of Moldova”, that will reflect the current climate conditions on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and recent innovations in the regional climatology.
The milestones in the Centre activity are the compilation and update of the catalogues of dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena in the Republic of Moldova, study of their temporal and spatial fluctuation and application of the results obtained in operational activities and practical problem-solving.
In the framework of the regional climatic monitoring the Centre investigates natural anthropogenic climate change in Moldova, assesses the scale and behavior of such changes for servicing natural economy and scientific institutions. By now the Centre has carried out diagnostic assessment of the modern climate in Moldova and its characteristic (temperature, precipitation and etc.) and generalized time series of the dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena and determined their variability tendencies in conditions of global climate warming.
As more and more users need perspective assessments of regional climate the Scientific Methodical Centre is actively involved in development of future climate models; assessment of uncertainties, risks and climate changes as result of human activity; determination of climate regional features.
For these problems solving the Centre cooperates with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and thereby contributes to the preparation of the 4th Assessment Report on climate change.
The employees participate in the international exchange and contribute to the fulfillment of commitments under the international conventions and agreements signed by the Republic of Moldova. Experience obtained in the process of preparation of scientific reports and publications facilitates analysis and synthesis of the scientific methodic information and is successfully applied in a number of reports and publications that were presented at various scientific meetings and conferences on the regional and global scale, numerous publications, methodic and practical recommendations and cartographical works.
