The Meteorology Department is the operative subdivision of the State Hydrometeorological Service.
Meteorological and agrometeorological monitoring in the republic is performed by 18 meteorological stations and 1 aerological station, 15 meteorological and 19 agrometeorological posts.
Main tasks of the Department:
- organization, development and methodical guidance of the state hydrometeorological observation system
- issue of public meteorological forecasts (agrometeorological, climatic) and warnings about dangerous weather phenomena
- provision of economic agents with specialized information on unfavorable weather phenomena in accordance with agreements approved by the State Hydrometeorological Service
- issue of specialized forecasts for economic agents
- monitoring of hydrometeorological information used by economic agents
- as requested delivery of specialized information on extreme events occurrence , proportion and intensity to juridical and natural persons
- systematic analysis, synthesis of meteorological and agrometeorological conditions
- preparation and publication of informative material and delivery of systematic information to local and central public authorities, economic agents and population
- scientific and applied researches in meteorology
