departmental and state testing of the instruments in use;

control and metrological supervision of the instruments (proper use, observance of technical regulations);

maintenance of the instruments;

installation and operation of the hydrometeorological equipment.

The staff of the Department was the first in the USSR that installed the upper-air station “Titan” for collecting meteorological data in the upper atmosphere that is a key element for forecast verification. At present the staff is engaged in installation of automatic weather stations.
